Learn a skill in 20 hours
Whether it’s playing an instrument; learning a sport or communication skill- every skill is learnable. So you can learn any skill you want. But it needs practice and cannot be done overnight- that’s not possible.
The question is how much practice is needed. You must’ve
heard- the more you practice the better… That’s true and so is what I’m going
to say.
“We can learn a skill in
20 hours.” Yes, that’s right. 20 hours of pure learning. Now, this doesn’t mean
you should spend the 20 hours straight away without any gaps. Split the 20 hours
into regular periods of 45 mins per day (or as you like).
In this time learn what you have to. Be honest with yourself.
Avoid distractions or doing anything time-wasting.
1)
DECONSTRUCT
THE SKILL
Divide the skill into small parts to make it easier
for you to master the skill by mastering each part. E.g. If you want to improve
your English skills, then divide it into different parts- speaking, reading,
writing and listening skills. The work on each.
2)
LEARN ENOUGH
TO SELF CORRECT
As you are learning the skill yourself, you’ll have to
make corrections yourself. So help it. Use a few recommended sources or guidelines.
Follow them and keep correcting yourself as you learn. Don’t procrastinate.
3)
REMOVE DISTRACTIONS
Your 20 hours should be pure 20 hours. No distractions.
Strictly focus your mind and don’t think about anything else. Choose a suitable
place. It can be your room or a quiet corner in the house. Make sure to get the
most out of whatever you learn.
4)
PRACTISE
FOR AT LEAST 20 HOURS
Compete these 20 hours. It may take months or a year, but be consistent. Every skill has a frustration barrier. Initially practising a skill will make you feel stupid, and at times, tired. But keep practising to remove the frustration barrier.
